The Portuguese remains grateful to Cavani for having let him have his usual jersey number
Man United’s latest signing, Ronaldo has just been confirmed as the club’s number 7 after much hassles.
Since his debut for Man United following move from Sporting, only once has Ronaldo been in another jersey number aside 7 and that was number 9 at Real Madrid.
That has led to him been branded CR7 as he is always known with the number 7.
Having returned to Man United for a second spell, normal rules basically meant he wasn’t to get the number 7 jersey as it was already occupied.
But following efforts made by both the club, the Premier League and Edinson Cavani in particular, Ronaldo was handed the number 7.
Unlike other cases, Ronaldo became the first player to be handed an exception in the Premier League jersey number rules.
All these couldn’t have happened if Cavani had refused to let go of the number 7 for his country side 21 and Ronaldo knows fully.
Speaking on getting the number 7, Ronaldo said; “I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again. So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi [Cavani] for this incredible gesture.”
Having returned from International duty, Ronaldo will isolate for 5 days before getting into action for the Red Devils.
